MakeMyTrip to Acquire Majority Stake in Flamingo Transworld to Strengthen Holiday Packages Business
India’s leading online travel platform, MakeMyTrip, has announced plans to acquire a majority stake in regional tour operator Flamingo Transworld, marking a strategic move to strengthen its presence in the rapidly growing holiday packages segment. While the financial details of the transaction have not been disclosed, the deal is subject to customary closing conditions.
Founded more than three decades ago, Flamingo Transworld has built a strong reputation in the organized group tours market. The company offers a wide range of domestic and international travel packages and has established a particularly strong presence in western and central India, including states such as Gujarat, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, and Madhya Pradesh.

The acquisition reflects MakeMyTrip’s broader strategy of expanding beyond online bookings and strengthening its curated travel experiences and holiday packages offering. By integrating Flamingo’s regional expertise and operational capabilities, MakeMyTrip aims to reach a wider base of travelers, particularly in regional markets where organized group travel remains highly popular.
One of Flamingo Transworld’s key strengths lies in its extensive offline distribution network, which includes 51 offices across multiple cities. This strong on-ground presence has allowed the company to build deep relationships with customers and travel agents, enabling it to cater to regional preferences and cultural nuances in travel planning.

Flamingo’s tour packages are known for offering highly curated group travel experiences, especially for Indian travelers seeking comfort and familiarity during international trips. A unique aspect of its services includes Indian meals prepared by on-tour chefs or verified vegetarian and Jain kitchens, ensuring dietary preferences are met even while traveling abroad. The tours also feature dedicated tour managers who speak regional languages, making travel more convenient and comfortable for customers from diverse backgrounds.
According to MakeMyTrip, Flamingo’s offerings will complement its existing holiday packages portfolio and help the company deepen its footprint in markets where group travel continues to dominate consumer demand. The move also aligns with the broader growth of India’s travel and tourism sector, which is witnessing a strong rebound following the pandemic.

With rising disposable incomes, improved connectivity, and a growing appetite for international travel, more Indian consumers are choosing organized tours for convenience and reliability. By bringing Flamingo Transworld into its ecosystem, MakeMyTrip is positioning itself to capture this growing demand while offering a wider range of travel experiences tailored to regional audiences.
The acquisition highlights how digital travel platforms are increasingly combining online technology with strong offline networks to deliver more personalized and accessible travel services across India.
