All of us have gone through blood test in our life and faced painful needle-based blood collection in the process, but a 3-year-old start-up EzeRx has come with an Innovative, easy, hassle-free, and made in India solution of blood test which even a layperson can use by himself and get results within 10-20 seconds.
A med-tech-based start-up, headquarter at Bhubaneswar, has made a portable device called EzeCheck which can check 5 different blood parameters, namely blood sugar level, oxygen saturation, bilirubin, creatinine, and hemoglobin, without taking a single drop of blood from your body.
EzeRX – which stands for ‘Easy for prescription’ – is on a mission to make the adoption of preventive healthcare approach more appealing and accessible for Indians by providing easy, affordable, diagnostic solutions.EzeCheck collects data with just a tap of the finger on the device, and the result will be delivered within 10-20 seconds through the App based platform to the patient’s WhatsApp. Each blood test costs around Rs. 35 only, which is far less than the current market prices.
It is a battery-operated device with a capacity of 2500 mAh and can run for 10 to 12 hours. The device is solely manufactured in India, except for one component, which is imported from Japan.
Incorporated in 2018, Headed by Partha Pratim, along with Chaitali Roy and Sudip Roy EzeRx has previously developed a non-invasive, non-contact, IoT-enabled portable diagnostic device called AJO (Anaemia, Jaundice, and Oxygen saturation) in 2019, which is also a bloodless and painless test for anemia, liver, and lungs related health issues but its cost is around Rs. 3 Lakhs. EzeCheck device is low in cost and lighter in weight as compared to AJO. The company is attracting attention from tier-2 and 3 cities clients like clinics and hospitals and also from state government bodies, pharma companies, health insurance companies, etc.
“We can provide 10,000 devices in one year, which would mean over two lakh tests can be done per day and Rs 50 Lakh revenue per day. Now we need to onboard the right strategies on how we can connect with the state governments and also raise funding. These are futuristic technologies, and hence we need high working capital for R&D, manufacturing, and sale of the products,” says Founder and CEO Partha Pratim.
In-country like India, in which almost 80% of people over the age of 45 are suffering from diabetes, 2 out of 3 women have low hemoglobin and over 1 Mn people are diagnosed with liver problems every year. Products like EzeCheck have a decent marketplace.
In the last year 2020, the company has raised Rs. 1.75 cr. in a seed round from its angel investors led by Odisha-based incubator KIIT-TBI and other angel investors are Sri Krishna Chakravarty, Sudip Row Chowdhury, Shradha Sharma, and Manoj Patra.
EzeCheck device is certified by the Central Drugs Standard Organization (CDSCO) with an over 95% accuracy and is now looking to get International certification to explore foreign markets.
Partha had said, “Nearly 75 percent of our population is from rural India, and they believe in curative healthcare approach instead of preventative. And that’s a big problem. So, the idea is to identify the primary health parameters in the early stage, so we can easily predict liver, lungs, and kidney problems, or even nutrition problems like anemia and detect random blood glucose, so that patients can then go in for a complete cure. That’s the idea.”
