IG Defence Raises $5 Mn to Strengthen India’s Indigenous Drone Capabilities
Defence-tech startup IG Defence has raised approximately $5 million (₹46.2 crore) in its ongoing Pre-Series A funding round, backed by investors including India Accelerator, Finvolve, and several prominent family offices. The round values the company at a post-money valuation of ₹422 crore ($45 million), underscoring growing investor confidence in India’s rapidly evolving defence and drone technology ecosystem.
Founded in 2018 by VSSUT alumni Bodhisattwa Sanghapriya and Om Prakash, IG Defence has been at the forefront of building indigenous drone technologies tailored for both defence and civilian applications. The company initially gained recognition under the name IG Drones and has since repositioned itself as a serious player in defence-tech innovation.
The startup focuses on developing advanced unmanned aerial systems (UAS) designed for surveillance, mapping, reconnaissance, and tactical operations. With increasing emphasis on self-reliance in defence manufacturing under initiatives like “Make in India,” companies like IG Defence are playing a crucial role in reducing dependency on imported technologies.

While the exact utilisation of the newly raised funds is yet to be officially disclosed, industry experts suggest that the capital will likely be directed toward research and development, scaling manufacturing capabilities, and expanding defence-grade product offerings. Additionally, the company may invest in strengthening its AI-driven drone intelligence systems to enhance real-time data processing and operational efficiency.
IG Defence’s dual-focus strategy, serving both defence forces and civilian sectors such as infrastructure, disaster management, and agriculture, positions it uniquely in the market. This diversified approach not only expands revenue streams but also ensures long-term sustainability in a competitive landscape.

The funding comes at a time when global demand for drone technology is surging, especially in defence applications. Governments worldwide are prioritising investments in unmanned systems for border security, surveillance, and combat support. In India, the push for domestic innovation has created significant opportunities for startups operating in this space.
Backed by strong investors and a clear vision, IG Defence is well-positioned to capitalise on this momentum. The company’s growth trajectory reflects the broader rise of India’s deep-tech and defence startup ecosystem, which is attracting increasing attention from both domestic and international investors.

As the startup continues to scale, its ability to deliver cutting-edge, reliable, and cost-effective drone solutions will be critical in establishing itself as a key contributor to India’s defence infrastructure and a competitive player in the global drone market.
