UpGrad Acquires Majority Stake in Internshala to Strengthen End-to-End Skilling-to-Jobs Ecosystem
Upskilling major UpGrad, led by Ronnie Screwvala, has acquired a 90% stake in internship and job-search platform Internshala through a stock-based transaction. While the Mumbai-based edtech firm did not officially disclose the deal value, sources indicate that Internshala was valued at approximately ₹100 crore as part of the transaction.
The acquisition marks a strategic move by UpGrad to deepen its presence across the entire learner lifecycle, from skilling and training to internships, on-the-job exposure, and employment outcomes. As part of the deal, UpGrad plans to invest additional resources to accelerate product innovation and AI-led talent matching on the Internshala platform.

Founded as a student-first platform, Internshala has built a strong presence among college students and early-career professionals, offering access to internships, fresher jobs, and skill-based opportunities across sectors. The platform has consistently grown at a healthy pace, with current growth estimated at 30–40% annually.
With UpGrad’s backing, the company aims to push this growth further to 40–50%, leveraging deeper technology integration, enhanced employer access, and AI-driven matchmaking between candidates and opportunities.
Speaking about the acquisition, Ronnie Screwvala highlighted the importance of real-world experience in the skilling journey. “At UpGrad, what we’re doing is skilling and training. One of the biggest components, obviously, is on-the-job training. Internships are a critical aspiration point for learners, and this partnership helps us bridge that gap,” he said.

The integration will enable UpGrad learners to directly access internships and job listings available on Internshala, creating a more seamless pathway from education to employment. At the same time, Internshala will benefit from UpGrad’s large learner base, enterprise partnerships, and focus on outcome-driven education.
UpGrad also sees significant potential in applying its AI and data capabilities to improve hiring efficiency for employers while delivering better-fit opportunities to candidates. By combining structured skilling programs with real-world work exposure, the company aims to address one of India’s biggest challenges: employability at scale.

This acquisition reflects a broader trend in the edtech sector, where platforms are moving beyond content and courses to focus on measurable career outcomes. By bringing Internshala into its ecosystem, UpGrad is positioning itself as a comprehensive career acceleration platform for students and professionals alike.
As competition intensifies in India’s skilling and talent marketplace, the UpGrad–Internshala combination is poised to create a powerful, integrated ecosystem, connecting learning, internships, and jobs more efficiently than ever before.
