Velmenni Raises ₹30 Cr to Accelerate Li-Fi Innovation and Defence Connectivity Solutions

Deeptech startup Velmenni has raised ₹30 crore (approximately $3.3 million) in its Series A funding round, led by pi Ventures, with participation from MountTech Growth Fund – Kavachh and Apekso. This funding marks a significant milestone in Velmenni’s journey to revolutionise high-speed data connectivity using light-based communication technologies.

Founded in 2012 by Deepak Solanki, Velmenni is a pioneer in Li-Fi (Light Fidelity) and Free Space Optics (FSO) technologies. These solutions leverage light waves instead of traditional radio frequencies to transmit data, offering faster, more secure, and interference-free connectivity, particularly valuable in high-density and sensitive environments.

The company focuses on solving last-mile connectivity challenges, enabling seamless data transmission from users or devices to the internet through high-speed backhaul networks. Its solutions are designed to integrate with modern telecom infrastructure, including 4G-LTE, 5G, and FTTx broadband networks, making them highly relevant in today’s data-driven ecosystem.

With the fresh capital infusion, Velmenni plans to commercialise its Li-Fi and optical wireless solutions at scale. The company will also prioritise developing advanced solutions tailored for defence and enterprise clients, where secure and high-performance communication systems are critical.

A major highlight of Velmenni’s growth journey is its strong traction in the defence sector. The company has already secured a multi-million-dollar deal with the Indian defence forces to deploy FSO-based communication systems across submarines. These deployments aim to address connectivity challenges in harbour environments, where traditional wireless communication often falls short.

Beyond India, Velmenni is actively expanding its footprint in international markets, tapping into the growing global demand for next-generation communication technologies. As industries increasingly seek alternatives to congested radio-frequency spectrums, Li-Fi is emerging as a promising solution.
